Removing Indian Food Cooking Odors? Hello all, I come from an East Indian family that lives abroad. My mother often cooks Indian food which involves cooking of a lot of onions and other spices and herbs initially. As a result, there always is an awful smell that diffuses throughout the whole house. This smell is not just of onions but also of the spices used. In our language, it is called the smell of "tarka" (though, I may have spelled it wrong). Unfortunately, this smell has become a part of our house and can easily be recognized when entering our home. Does anyone know or have any ideas of removing this smell. Any suggestions would be appreciated S.M.

Do you think he'd be able to find something on the menu he likes?

How do you get the smell of Indian food out of a house? The woes of a smelly home--my parents have a multi-level "great-room" style home--essentially the entire house is like one huge room. My parents, being Indian, cook Indian cuisine every day. The entire house REEKS of Indian food, and not in a good way. We've tried candles, house spray, electric machines that claim to remove smells...any other tips on how to get their house to stop smelling like an angry spice rack? Product suggestions are welcome! Going to burn some frankincense now, Michelle
Indian food, cooking for your health? I have persistent stomach problems, and have not received very much help from doctors. I would like to try eating with spices and herbs that will help me. I was told about Deepak Chopra. I was just wondering where to start. Are there some good recipe books you would recommend. What is the most informative book on how different types of herbs heal? Sorry I guess I needed to clarify. I have been put under the category of IBS. I'm being tested for infections or other possible reasons why I get diarrhea and nausea everyday.
Samosa and other Indian recipes? I love Indian food and now that I am in a relationship with an Indian man I want to learn to cook foods that are native to his birth culture. Samosa is my top priority and I want a recipe that is authentic. Not westernized versions, the real traditional Indian samosa. Does anyone have a traditional recipe to offer? I'm also looking for recommendations on cookbooks with traditional Indian recipes. Any guidance there or tips in general in cooking Indian dishes? Peace and many thanks.

For example to make Dosa, Idly or cook non vegetarian items in South Indian way like Chettinad, to make Biriyani etc., As such in India only chinese made induction cooking hobs are sold at exorbitant price. Is it justifiable? (An induction hob costs you something between 2500 to 5000 Rupees). Is it worth to use it or shall I buy one Coil stove manufactured under brand name "Johnson". Indian Food At High Schools? I was planning to approach my local high school and ask if i could take over one of there hospitality and catering classes to show the class how to cook indian food and let them eat it. My initial plan was to go to the class with a 3 course meal for the children however these portions won't be the portions i give to customers at my restaurants these portions would be rather smaller. When i cook the starter i would like them all to gather around and watch however the point the starter is being grilled and cooked i would like them to sit down and write a review on what they have seen and what they liked best and the same procedure when i cook the main meal and the dessert. I would like responses from teachers and general people on how you think i should approach this and would it be a good idea and how i could make it a better prospect. i would much appreciate your help. thank you.

Cooking Indian makes my apartment smell like "B.O." for DAYS. Why?! Is it a particular spice? Suggestions? I don't mean to be disrespectful of Indian culture: My one flatmate makes great tasting Indian food, but the entire apartment smells for DAYS of "body odor", even after opening the window and burning candles. It gets into the clothes, sheets, and towels and drives the two non-cookers nuts! We don't want to ban Indian food and my flatmate is willing to leave out the offensive spice. We all did a sniff test, and no one spice seems to be the culprit. For some reason, it does not have an "Indian food" smell, it smells of sweat. Yuck! We have other Indian food enthusiasts and their homes don't have the problem. The smell is embarassing and VERY HARD to get rid of. He cooks mainly lentils...is it the lentils that are giving off the smell? He has a damaged sense of smell so he needs to spice heavily and isn't as aware of the overly offensive odor. We are DESPERATE for tips on: - which spice to cut out - how to lessen smells while cooking - how to help get rid of the smell after
